Hafren Dyfrdwy informs visitors of road closures at Lake Vyrnwy after Storm Darragh causes extensive damage

9th December 2024

People visiting Hafren Dyfrdwy’s Lake Vyrnwy, are being told to avoid going around the reservoir – after Storm Darragh caused damage to the site, making most of the circular road unpassable.

The extreme weather conditions have hit the site hard over the weekend, causing trees to uproot and fall on the perimeter road around the visitor site. This means the B4393, cannot be accessed on both the north and south sides of the lake due to the fallen trees.

Teams are now on site to assess the scale of the damage and start a clean-up operation, but the road is expected to be closed for some time. The team is currently assessing the trails around site, but for now it is recommend people don’t visit the wider site.

The toilets, hotel, village and shops are still accessible and open.

Richard Spence, Principal Property Manager, said: “Our Lake Vyrnwy visitor site, like a lot of Wales, has been impacted over the weekend by Storm Darragh with the road around the site currently impassable.

“To avoid any disappointment for visitors, we are letting people know to plan their trip, as people cannot currently get around the wider site due to the fallen trees.

“Our teams are out on site with contractors to assess the scale of the damage and the clear up operation will be starting as soon as is possible, but the road is expected to remain shut until after Christmas.”
