Clean up continues at Lake Vyrnwy’s reservoir in the aftermath of Storm Darragh

December 24th, 2024

Hafren Dyfrdwy is continuing to deal with the aftermath of Storm Darragh which caused a significant amount of damage around the reservoir at Lake Vyrnwy – which could take weeks to complete.

A huge number of trees were uprooted across the visitor site causing them to fall, blocking many trails and a large section of the perimeter road.

Teams have been on site since the storm, working hard on the ground to clear the debris and remove the fallen trees.

Work is expected to take some time and could see crews on site over the holidays and for many weeks into the New Year to get everything back in order, but everyone is working as quickly as possible to get this done.

The main car park and trails near to the village are open and accessible and will be throughout the festive period, however there is limited parking as car parks on the wider site are closed due to damage.

Everyone is reminded that although there are issues around the site, the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel, Artisan’s café, Chocolate Cabin and the toilets are open.

Visitors that come along to Lake Vyrnwy while work is going on are asked to take care and pay attention to the trails that are open and the signs that have been put up providing information.

Dan Taberner, Visitor Experience Lead for Hafren Dyfrdwy, said: “A considerable number of trees were uprooted by the storm leaving a trail of damage around the reservoir and the perimeter road and it is going to take time for that to be put back to normal.

“We are asking people when visiting site to stick to the open trails and avoid walking the wider site, also please follow the information on the signs around site- they are there to keep you safe.

“We would also ask that visitors should be prepared to turn around and visit another time if the limited car parking spaces are full.”
